California AB 1305 Statement

Burlington strives to be a responsible steward of the natural environment by pursuing opportunities to reduce the impact of its operations. To minimize the company’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, Burlington focuses on improving the energy efficiency of its facilities, and increasing the use of electricity generated from renewable sources.

By 2030, Burlington intends to:

  • Reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 60% (measured by quantity of CO2e per operating square foot, versus a baseline year of 2016)
  • Consume 20% of its electricity from renewable sources

At the end of FY2023, Burlington had achieved 80% progress toward the first goal, and 46% progress toward the second goal. In addition, the company had reduced its energy usage intensity (measured by kWh per operating square foot versus a baseline year of 2016) from 15.3 to 10.0.

Burlington employs the standards and guidance published by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol to measure and manage its greenhouse gas emissions, and leverages a dedicated carbon accounting software platform to analyze performance and track progress against reduction goals. While the data undergoes internal validation for completeness and accuracy, it is not presently verified by a third party.

The company uses building and energy management systems to measure and manage its energy usage, and leverages on-site solar arrays, renewable energy credits, and community solar programs to scale its use of electricity from renewable sources.
